• NBU requires a two-month estimated billing deposit which is determined by the average billing history for the location that is being applied for.
• When applying for a newly constructed business the deposit will be based on the square footage of the building.  The deposit may vary depending on the type of business that will be in the building such as restaurants, manufacturers, etc.
• One-half of the deposit is due when making application for service and the balance of the deposit will be billed by NBU on the first monthly billing.
• The deposit shall be held by NBU for a period of time not less than 60 months and then refunded at the discretion of New Braunfels Utilities only if the account maintains and NBU credit score of “B” or better.
• Interest will be calculated for security deposits held by NBU from the date the deposit is received.  The interest rate is based on the United States Treasury Bills less 25 basis points (.25%).

Irrevocable Letter of Credit

New Braunfels Utilities will waive the deposit upon receipt of an Irrevocable Letter of Credit from your financial institution.

New Braunfels Utilities will waive the deposit if you have established an acceptable credit history.

Acceptable Credit History

• At least 60 months of continuous service.

• An NBU credit score of “B” or better for the last 60 consecutive months.

An existing NBU customer may transfer services to another location with good credit as long as they have a credit score of “B” or better for the last 60 consecutive months.

Credit Insurance

Before a customer can be considered for credit insurance, in lieu of paying a deposit, the account should have an annual utility bill of $100,000.00 or more to be considered eligible.  Submitting a request is no guarantee the customer will qualify for credit insurance.  The customer will be asked to provide certain information, including a Duns #, which will be submitted to NBU’s credit insurance carrier for review.
