Job Summary

Perform a variety of programming assignments requiring knowledge of established programming procedures and data processing requirements. Maintain and modify programs and develop reports. The incumbent also provides miscellaneous technical support in such areas as network administration, maintenance, software installations and user accounts. Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.

Job Duties and Tasks

  • Communicate effectively with peers and superiors so that messages and directions are clearly understood by all entities involved.
  • Analyze performance of programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with users and management.
  • Code, test and troubleshoot programs utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.
  • Refine data and format final product.
  • Maintain and modify programs; make approved changes by amending flow charts, develop detailed programming logic, and coding changes.
  • Evaluate simple interrelationships between programs such as whether a contemplated change in one part of a program would cause unwanted results in a related part.
  • Confer with users to gain understanding of needed changes or modifications of existing programs. Resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
  • Write and maintain programming documentation.
  • Analyze NT client/server and micro-computer based software solutions compatibility with company requirements.
  • Document programming problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Assist personnel of other departments as a computer resource.
  • Utilize current versions of computer hardware and software provided by NBU to create Crystal Reports, spreadsheets, databases and programs.
  • Organize and manage code to keep versions and releases intact.
  • Identify application related problems and work with vendor support personnel to expedite a solution for the specified problem.
  • Work with interfaces between software applications.
  • Work with application vendors to obtain understanding of their applications and database structures.
  • Work with end users to understand their problems, requirements, budget constraints and provide solutions.
  • Produce memos, reports, and other documents that are clear, accurate, and grammatically correct.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with peers and superiors.
  • Six years of direct experience in database administration and programming may substitute for the education requirements.
  • Possess and utilize technical skills capable of considering numerous choices and alternatives, and determining the best overall resolution for technology support issues.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in approaching assigned tasks.
  • Ability to establish priorities and multi-task so that assigned duties are completed under pressures of time constraints and deadlines.
  • Demonstrate receptivity to new ideas and approaches, and adapt with flexibility to accommodate any changes in priorities or circumstances.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with AS/400
  • Experience with MySQL, PHP, Visual Studio, Visual C++
  • Experience with developing applications with Microsoft Access

Environmental and/or Physical Demands

  • The job is set in a general indoor office setting.
  • Physical requirements are that of a standard office environment, though some squatting, moderate lifting, kneeling, and crawling may be required.
  • Post job offer physical required.
