NBU issues annual water quality report
NEW BRAUNFELS—In its annual water quality report, mailed
to all New Braunfels Utilities customers beginning this week, NBU provided
the facts and figures supporting the high quality of drinking water it serves
to customers in New Braunfels and the surrounding area.
The annual report, developed in compliance with requirements from the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA), details the quality of the local water supply compared to the
state and federal standards. Water served by New Braunfels Utilities consistently
meets or is better than all state and federal health and safety standards
for public drinking water.
“We have always been proud to let customers know
that the water served to their homes is of excellent quality,” says NBU
Executive Director of Water
Services Roger Biggers. “This report confirms that of the more than 97
substances we monitor for, none was found above the allowable level.”
The
centerpiece of the report is a table that shows the maximum allowable level
of each substance and levels found in NBU’s supply and the distribution
system. Monitoring takes place year-round to look for both man-made substances
like pesticides, and naturally occurring elements like arsenic and fluoride.
In
addition to the chart, the report contains interesting and informative
background on frequently asked questions about water, such as comparative
safety of bottled water, use of water softeners and other in-home treatment
devices, the source of NBU’s water supply, and how citizens can become
involved in decisions regarding their drinking water.
Customers will
receive a copy of the NBU Annual Drinking Water Report in their utility
bill. The report is also available by visiting www.nbutexas.com or by requesting a copy at the NBU Main Office, Service Center or
Laboratory. If you have questions regarding the report, please call (830)
