SAFEhaven Coloring Contest kicks off
NEW BRAUNFELS—As school children get back into the
swing of the school year, NBU is helping make it a
safer—and more fun—fall semester. The SAFEhaven in Schools team
of Chuck
Reininger and Mike Wiley and the SAFEhaven mascot, Bucky the Bucket Truck,
will be
visiting New Braunfels area schools to share their message of safety education
and to
invite children, in grades kindergarten through third, to participate in
the fifth annual
SAFEhaven coloring book contest.
For over 20 years, the SAFEhaven in Schools
program has provided safety education to
children and taught them that NBU trucks and personnel can provide them
with access to
emergency services. On any given day, dozens of NBU trucks and equipment
are
deployed throughout the New Braunfels area. All NBU trucks are equipped
with
SAFEhaven identification, enabling any citizen in need to ask an NBU employee
to call
for medical or public safety assistance. NBU provides a direct line of
communication to
emergency services such as police, fire and EMTs. SAFEhaven provides both
children
and adults an alternative to asking for help from people they don’t
know.
SAFEhaven coloring books are passed out to each child
in conjunction with the school
program, which they can take home and share what they have learned with
their parents.
Parents, in turn, are encouraged to take the opportunity to discuss the
topic of safety at
home, in school and in the community with their child. Inside each book
is an entry for
the SAFEhaven Coloring Contest. Parents are invited to send their child’s
masterpiece to
NBU, c/o SAFEhaven Coloring Book Contest, P.O. Box 310289, New Braunfels,
TX
78131-0289, or drop them by the NBU Main Office. Four lucky winners (one
from each
grade) will receive a Spiel-Meister membership to the McKenna Children’s
Museum.
Their class will also be treated to a field trip to the McKenna Children’s
Museum in
January. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December
13, 2006 in
order to qualify. Complete rules are available by clicking here or call
(830) 629-8486 for
more information.
