J.M. Francis was appointed as the first General Manager for the utility, a position he held until 1967. There were 9 employees at this time and the population of New Braunfels was just over 7,000 people.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1947-&lt;\/strong&gt; The Eiband &amp; Fischer Mercantile was completely consumed by fire, the main building burning to the ground except for a few brick walls which remained standing. An annex was saved because it was separated by a courtyard from the main building.&lt;\/p&gt;\n\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a\n\t\t\t\t\thref=\"#\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttabindex=\"0\"\n\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"hotspot__icon hotspot__icon--orange js-active\"\n\t\t\t\t\tstyle=\"left: 29.5938%; top: 81.3333%;\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-html=\"true\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-toggle=\"popover\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-trigger=\"focus\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-placement=\"auto\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-title=\"1950-1959\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-label=\"1950-1959\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-content=\"&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1950-&lt;\/strong&gt; The population surged to 12,210 a 75% growth since the 1940 census.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1952- &lt;\/strong&gt;A major flood occurred, marking the first flood.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1956-&lt;\/strong&gt; The last year of a seven year drought that caused the Comal Springs to go dry for a 6-month period. The Electric Company assumed operation and maintenance of the Street Lighting System in New Braunfels.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1959-&lt;\/strong&gt; The City of New Braunfels assigned operations of the water and sewer systems to NBU.&lt;\/p&gt;\n\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a\n\t\t\t\t\thref=\"#\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttabindex=\"0\"\n\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"hotspot__icon hotspot__icon--blue js-active\"\n\t\t\t\t\tstyle=\"left: 39.6518%; top: 68.0000%;\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-html=\"true\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-toggle=\"popover\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-trigger=\"focus\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-placement=\"auto\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-title=\"1960-1969\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-label=\"1960-1969\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-content=\"&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1960-&lt;\/strong&gt; The population of New Braunfels grew to 15,631, a 28% growth from the1950 census.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1968- &lt;\/strong&gt;Policy changes allowed new members of the the NBU Board to be appointed by the New Braunfels City Council rather than existing members of NBU\u2019s Board.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1969-&lt;\/strong&gt; The Eiband and Fischer property was purchased by local investors and eventually sold to NBU.&lt;\/p&gt;\n\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a\n\t\t\t\t\thref=\"#\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttabindex=\"0\"\n\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"hotspot__icon hotspot__icon--green js-active\"\n\t\t\t\t\tstyle=\"left: 52.0309%; top: 81.3333%;\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-html=\"true\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-toggle=\"popover\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-trigger=\"focus\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-placement=\"auto\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-title=\"1970-1979\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-label=\"1970-1979\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-content=\"&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1972- &lt;\/strong&gt;A major flood occurred. Landa Park reportedly saw up to 12 inches of rainfall in one day.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1976- &lt;\/strong&gt;Official Artist of Texas, Jack White donated one of his unique Echruseos (gold leaf) artworks to the NBU Board of Trustees. Today it hangs in the NBU Service Center lobby. This allowed NBU field crews and other departments to move their trucks and offices to a new location.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2007- &lt;\/strong&gt;New Braunfels Utilities held its first annual Kinderschuhe 5K Run\/Walk benefiting Communities in Schools.&lt;\/p&gt;\n\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a\n\t\t\t\t\thref=\"#\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttabindex=\"0\"\n\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"hotspot__icon hotspot__icon--blue js-active\"\n\t\t\t\t\tstyle=\"left: 93.0368%; top: 82.0000%;\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-html=\"true\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-toggle=\"popover\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-trigger=\"focus\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdata-placement=\"auto\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-title=\"2010-2023\"\n\t\t\t\t\taria-label=\"2010-2023\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-content=\"&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2010-&lt;\/strong&gt; Another major flood occurred causing extensive damage throughout the city.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2011- &lt;\/strong&gt;New Braunfels Utilities launches Facebook page, one of the first public power utilities in Texas to do so. The most severe single year drought occurred in 2011 since the 1950\u2019s. August 2011 was the hottest month in Texas history.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2014-&lt;\/strong&gt;\u00a0NBU began its in-house Power Supply department.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2015-&lt;\/strong&gt;The Trinity Well Field was brought on line, adding 4,000 acre-feet to NBU\u2019s firm water supply. New Braunfels was named the U.S.\u2019s second-fasted growing city with a population, according to estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2016-&lt;\/strong&gt; The Dynamic Customer Connections project began, allowing NBU to utilize AMI meters to offer new services and added convenience for customers.&lt;br \/&gt;\nConstruction began on the Headwaters at the Comal in 2016, a community center designed to teach visitors about the history of New Braunfels, water and energy conservation, and allow research.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2017-&lt;\/strong&gt;\u00a0TCEQ issues permit that will allow for relocation and expansion of Gruene Wastewater Treatment Plant and The Sam C. McKenzie Jr. Walter Reclamation Facility&lt;br \/&gt;\ncame on line.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2019-&lt;\/strong&gt; Trinity Water Treatment Plant was brought on line. A Groundbreaking ceremony was held for the New Braunfels Utilities\u2019 Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) project.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2020-&lt;\/strong&gt; Completion of Gruene Water Reclamation Facility expanding the capacity of the Gruene Wastewater Treatment Plant and relocating the facility out of the floodplain.
