(New Braunfels, TX \u2013 April 6, 2022) \u2013 New Braunfels and surrounding communities went into Stage 1 Drought Restrictions on March 10, 2022. Although there has been some slight rain in our area, the rainfall has been insufficient to maintain water level readings at the Edwards Aquifer for New Braunfels and the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone areas. The recent rise in temperatures, and increased water usage, combined with a warmer than usual and dry forecast, means that New Braunfels could enter State 2 Drought Restrictions within the next week. Today, the 10-day average for the J-17 well is 651.7-feet, less than two feet above the trigger for Stage 2.

\u201cIt is that time of year when water demand is anticipated to increase,\u201d said Chief Strategic Communications and Security Officer Melissa Krause. \u201cConservation measures enforced through drought restrictions are designed to help conserve water; however, NBU encourages year-round conservation to help protect our natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If and when we enter Stage 2 water restrictions, watering would be allowed one day<\/strong> a week. The schedule for the use of a sprinkler or irrigation system will be as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addresses ending 0 and 1: Monday
Addresses ending 2 and 3: Tuesday
Addresses ending 4 and 5: Wednesday
Addresses ending 6 and 7: Thursday
Addresses ending 8 and 9: Friday<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use of a hand-held hose, bucket, soaker hose, drip irrigation system, or a soaker hose that does not spray water into the air would be allowed on any day BEFORE 10:00 a.m. and AFTER 8:00 p.m. during Stage 2<\/strong>. The use of a sprinkler or irrigation system is not permitted on the weekends during Stages 1, 2, or 3.
