{"id":778,"date":"2016-04-27T10:43:51","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T15:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/live-nbu.pantheonsite.io\/?p=778"},"modified":"2025-05-20T13:29:52","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T18:29:52","slug":"nbu-to-host-operation-medsafe-on-april-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nbutexas.com\/es\/nbu-to-host-operation-medsafe-on-april-30\/","title":{"rendered":"NBU to host Operation MedSafe on April 30"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>NBU NEWS RELEASE<\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 27, 2016<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact: Gretchen Reuwer, NBU Public Affairs Manager, (830) 629-8486<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NBU to host Operation&nbsp;MedSafe&nbsp;on April 30<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NEW BRAUNFELS\u2014NBU, in partnership with&nbsp;the New Braunfels Police Department, and Home Instead Senior Care, will host Operation&nbsp;MedSafe&nbsp;on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The drug take back initiative offers NBU customers a disposal opportunity for their unused and expired pills and tablets, and helps to reduce the amount of pharmaceuticals that are released into the wastewater and water systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNBU has taken a proactive approach to reducing the presence of pharmaceuticals in the wastewater and water systems,\u201d NBU Public Affairs Manager Gretchen Reuwer says. \u201cBy hosting this event in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency\u2019s (DEA) nationwide initiative, we can offer our residents an alternative to flushing medications or pouring them down a drain.\u201d<br><br>New Braunfels residents or their family caregivers can bring their items to one of two NBU locations this year. Drop off will be available at NBU Main Office employee parking lot where officers will be on hand to receive the drop-off of pills and capsules. The NBU Main Office is located at 263 E. Main Plaza in downtown New Braunfels and the employee parking lot can be accessed via the drive thru next to&nbsp;Naegelin\u2019s&nbsp;Bakery on Seguin Avenue or from Comal Avenue. The other location is the NBU Service Center at 355&nbsp;FM 306.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents are asked to bring a current NBU bill or photo ID for proof of residency and to keep their medications in their original prescription containers, if possible, until they hand them over to a police officer. These will then be transferred to a DEA-provided storage bag. The pill bottles will have any identifying information marked off by NBU volunteers and these will be transferred to the City of New Braunfels recycling center for disposal.
