DESCRIPTION:You’ve planted native plants — now what? While Texas natives are famously hardy and low-maintenance\, they do have their own set of rules. If you’re used to traditional garden plants\, caring for natives might feel a little different — but once you learn the basics\, it’s easier (and more rewarding) than you think! \nJoin Deedy Wright for an informative workshop that will give you the tools and confidence to care for your native landscape year-round. Whether you’ve just started your native plant journey or you’ve got an established garden in need of some TLC\, this session will help you understand what your plants really need — and what they don’t. \nDeedy Wright is a life-long Texas gardener. Her particular interests are native and invasive plants. She has been an active member of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) since 1996\, active at both local and state level programs such as instructor for the Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) and chair of the state Invasive Plant Committee. She has completed multiple native plant courses at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center and landscape training at Texas A&M University\, along with the Texas Invaders training on invasive plants. \nA retired secondary language arts and social studies teacher\, Deedy has taught adult continuing education classes on various gardening topics in the San Antonio area.

DESCRIPTION:Planting a tree is more than just adding shade or beauty to your yard — it’s an investment in the health of your land\, your community\, and future generations. But not all trees are created equal\, especially when it comes to thriving in the unique climate and soil of Comal County. \nJoin Deedy Wright for an informative and down-to-earth workshop where you’ll learn how to choose the right native tree for the right place. We’ll explore a variety of trees native to the Texas Hill Country — species that are naturally adapted to our region’s conditions\, require less water\, support local wildlife\, and stand strong through drought and storms. \nDeedy Wright is a life-long Texas gardener. Her particular interests are native and invasive plants. She has been an active member of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) since 1996\, active at both local and state level programs such as instructor for the Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) and chair of the state Invasive Plant Committee. She has completed multiple native plant courses at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center and landscape training at Texas A&M University\, along with the Texas Invaders training on invasive plants. \nA retired secondary language arts and social studies teacher\, Deedy has taught adult continuing education classes on various gardening topics in the San Antonio area.

DESCRIPTION:Looking for an exciting and educational way to spend your Saturday morning? Come join us from 10-11AM for our monthly Saturday SEAM Series\, led by the wonderful Professor Graybeard! Get ready for science thrills and a few chills too. This is an event packed with science-themed Halloween Fun. Learn how to spruce up your décor with black lights\, learn how and why things glow\, and learn the secret behind the “self-carving” pumpkin.  \nThese programs are aimed at students in the Kindergarten-4th Grade range. During these monthly classes\, our SEAM (science\, engineering\, art\, and math) curriculum takes an unplugged approach to learning. Lessons take place in our outdoor pavilion\, helping to return students and families to nature. By holding these programs outdoors\, children are able to see many of the concepts they’re learning in action\, not just seeing on a screen or in a book. All activities are hands-on\, helping to build a deeper\, more tangible connection to science and nature through these programs.
