(New Braunfels, TX – May 22, 2025) – New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) will begin construction later this month on a critical infrastructure project in the area surrounding Ashmore Ave., Simon Ave. and Hampe St. Ahead of the City of New Braunfels’ roadway work along Simon St., this project will replace aging water and wastewater mains and add a second water feed.
Project Highlights
- Wastewater system improvement: Replace over 1,300 feet of old 6-inch wastewater pipes with larger, more efficient 8-inch mains along Hampe St, Simon Ave, and nearby easements to improve flow and helps prevent backups in the system.
- Water system upgrades: Replacement of 1,070 feet of outdated 6-inch water lines with new 8-inch pipes to increase capacity and reduce the chance of leaks or breaks.
- Improved flow control: New valves will be installed along Guada Coma Drive improving control over water flow in the neighborhood—allowing for quicker isolation of problems and minimizing service disruptions during repairs.
From Tuesday, May 27, to Tuesday, November 21, 2025, sections of Simon St. will be reduced to one lane between Hampe St. and Guada Coma Dr. to allow crews to safely maneuver equipment and materials. Additionally, drivers should expect varying lane conditions and flaggers directing traffic on Guada Coma Dr. Access to homes will be maintained for the duration of the project.
Planned water outages will occur during normal business hours between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. NBU customers will be notified of these planned outages at least 48 hours in advance.
All work is expected to be completed by November 21, 2025, weather permitting.
