Wayne Peters Reappointed to New Braunfels Utilities Board of Trustees

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — The New Braunfels City Council voted Monday, November 17, to reappoint Wayne Peters to the New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) Board of Trustees. Peters is currently in his first term, which began in 2020.

“I appreciate the New Braunfels City Council’s time and thoughtful consideration of both NBU Board of Trustees applicants, which ultimately resulted in the reappointment of Wayne Peters,” said NBU Chief Executive Officer Ryan Kelso. “I look forward to our continued work together serving our community.”

Peters has been a full-time resident of New Braunfels since 2002, graduated from the University of Southwest Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968, and became a certified public accountant in 1976.

Peters worked for Shell Chemicals for 35 years, retiring in 2002 as Vice President of the Ethylene Oxide (EO)/Glycols Business for Shell Oil Company. In this global role, he was responsible for strategic planning, implementation and business-related budgets.

Since retiring, Peters has been a community servant in New Braunfels. He was elected to the City Council, District 5, in May 2014 and reelected in May 2017. He represented the city on the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Alamo Area Council of Governments Executive Committee.

“I am truly honored and excited that the City Council has appointed me to continue serving on the NBU Board of Trustees,” Peters said. “I remain committed to working closely with CEO Ryan Kelso and my fellow Trustees to ensure NBU’s strategic direction prioritizes our vision of being a trusted community partner dedicated to excellence in service and provides the resilient essential services expected by the New Braunfels community.”

The New Braunfels City Council appoints members of the NBU Board of Trustees to serve five-year terms. The Board exercises complete control and authority over NBU’s electric, water and wastewater services, determining policy and overall direction for the utility.

Trustees are responsible for approving all bond issuances and rate changes for NBU’s service territory. Additionally, the Board maintains the utility’s complete system of accounts, budgetary controls and financial policy.
