Customers make 2016 NBU Community Shred Day a huge success

NEW BRAUNFELS—NBU hosted their annual Community Shred Day on April 16, which drew nearly 400 participants and resulted in nine tons of material being shredded for safe disposal!

“Our partner in this event, Shred-It Inc., has estimated that the turnout generated enough recycled paper to equal saving 153 trees, 18 barrels of oil, 63,000 gallons of water, and 27 cubic yards of landfill,” NBU Public Affairs Manager Gretchen Reuwer says. “This was the highest we have seen participation to date. Our employee volunteers were on hand to help customers unload their documents and the whole event ran very smoothly. We are pleased that customers are realizing that the Community Shred Day helps them protect their personal and confidential information, plus it speaks to NBU’s efforts to be a steward of our environmental resources.”

Participants brought their documents to NBU’s downtown office where NBU volunteers and Shred-It Inc. were waiting with mobile shredding unit trucks. Each customer was allowed to have two boxes of documents shredded for free and another two shredded for a $5 each with the proceeds going to the NBU Utility Bill Assistance Program. A total of $580 was raised for the progam!
