Excitement rolled onto local campuses this school year as New Braunfels Utilities electric bucket trucks visited schools across the community. For many elementary students, it was their first time seeing a bucket truck up close, watching an electric safety demonstration or discovering how water travels from source to tap. For employees at NBU, each visit was more than a demonstration. It was an opportunity to connect with the next generation, share their expertise and give students a firsthand look at the people and work that help keep the community running every day.

Throughout the 2025-26 school year, NBU employees visited 13 elementary schools and connected with more than 4,095 students across New Braunfels ISD and Comal ISD, bringing hands-on demonstrations, utility equipment and interactive learning experiences directly to students.

Schools visited included Carl Schurz Elementary, Lamar Elementary, County Line Elementary, Walnut Springs Elementary, Voss Farms Elementary, Oak Creek Elementary, Goodwin Frazier Elementary, Lone Star Early Childhood Center, Veramendi Elementary, Legend Point Elementary, Mayfair Elementary, Memorial Elementary and Hoffmann Lane Elementary.

Students had the opportunity to experience a variety of interactive demonstrations and activities throughout the year, including:

  • Monster Detective energy conservation activities
  • Electric Operations bucket truck demonstrations
  • Water Operations equipment visits
  • Electric arcing safety demonstrations
  • Water Conservation presentations
  • Career Day and Career on Wheels events

Throughout the school year, NBU employees conducted 10 Monster Detective presentations, eight Water Operations elementary school visits, five Electric Operations elementary school visits, two Conservation elementary school visits and two electric arcing demonstrations.

NBU’s outreach efforts also extended beyond elementary schools. Employees participated in three high school career days, two high school presentations and four college career events at Texas State University, helping students explore careers in public service, utilities, accounting, finance, engineering and skilled trades.

The impact extends beyond the students in the room. These visits also create opportunities for employees to share their passion for serving New Braunfels and inspire future generations to explore careers that help power and strengthen communities.

Whether students are learning how crews restore power, discovering ways to save energy at home or seeing a bucket truck for the first time, the goal remains the same: creating meaningful connections with the community and helping students better understand the people and work that support New Braunfels every day.
