About New Braunfels Utilities
New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) was established in 1942 when the City Commission of New Braunfels, Texas, purchased the electric transmission and distribution systems from Guadalupe Electric Company, formerly owned by the San Antonio Public Service Company, that served the City of New Braunfels and the surrounding area. In 1959, operations of the water and wastewater systems were transferred to NBU from the City.

NBU is one of 2,000 community-owned, public power utilities in the nation.

The NBU Board of Trustees is comprised of four residents of the City of New Braunfels and the current mayor of the City. The New Braunfels City Council appoints the Board members to five-year staggered terms.
This means you have a voice in how we maintain and operate the electric, water, and

New Braunfels Utilities invests in community betterment, building electric, water and wastewater infrastructure.
Monthly, NBU bills its customers for City of New Braunfels services including garbage
and recycling collection. Click here for more about our billing relationship with the City.
Each year, NBU provides a City transfer, which supports funding for fire, police, and our area parks.

New Braunfels Utilities has a diverse power supply portfolio in order to procure energy for its customers that is reliable, low cost, and has reduced price volatility. More specifically, providing Energy Efficiency Resources are an essential part of how NBU strives to educate the community and encourage conservation. Resources also include various rebates.
