Water Variance Requests
Sometimes, special circumstances make it difficult to follow standard water use guidelines. If you believe a section of the City of New Braunfels Water Conservation and Critical Period Management Plan creates a hardship for you, you may request a variance from New Braunfels Utilities. All variance requests must be submitted in writing to NBU’s Conservation Coordinator and will be reviewed by our Customer Solutions team. For new landscapes, requests must be submitted before installation begins. Please note that applying grass seed to an existing lawn does not qualify as new landscaping.
Once your request is received, it will be reviewed within 30 days. If a meeting is not required, you will be notified in writing of the approval or denial within that timeframe. If a meeting is necessary, you will be contacted with the date and time, and a written decision will be provided within 30 days of the meeting.
Pressure Washing Variance
Pressure washing of sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, streets, tennis courts, and other impervious surfaces is not allowed during drought stages 1, 2, and 3. Washing buildings or structures for appearance purposes is also restricted.
However, pressure washing may be permitted in certain situations, such as:
• Cleaning up hazardous material spills
• Removing conditions that threaten public health or safety
• Performing necessary maintenance that requires surface preparation
To pressure wash during a drought stage, customers must request and receive a Pressure Washing Variance from New Braunfels Utilities.
