Connecting Community

NBU speaking to kids during a conservation event

At New Braunfels Utilities, serving the community goes beyond delivering essential services—it means building connections, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for residents to get involved. Through a variety of community engagement initiatives, NBU partners with local organizations to promote safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

From hands-on educational events and family-friendly celebrations to programs that support public health and emergency preparedness, these initiatives are designed to inform, empower, and bring the New Braunfels community together.

Help Local Kids Thrive

Guided by the firsthand experiences of Communities in Schools staff working with students in CISD and NBISD, the KinderKraft donation drive addresses the most basic and often urgent needs – like hygiene products, school supplies and clothing – that help local kids thrive.

Celebrate Nature. Grow Something Local

Through the partnership between Headwaters at the Comal and The City of New Braunfels, Earth Day allows for a free, family-friendly activity to celebrate nature. The celebration features a native Texas Tree giveaway (over 1,000 one-gallon trees), hands-on nature activities, and educational exhibitor booths from local vendors.

Safely Dispose. Protect Our Water

The drug take back initiative hosted by NBU and the New Braunfels Police Department offers community members an opportunity to dispose of their unused and expired medication. Operation MedSafe also aims to reduce the number of pharmaceuticals that are discarded into the water and wastewater systems.

Be Ready When It Matters Most

Designed to inform the community of New Braunfels with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to stay safe and informed when matters most, NBU’s Emergency Preparedness Event aims to do just that. Attendees gain information on power outage preparedness to stay protected during severe weather and other emergencies, as well as conservation education and utility bill assistance.
