NBU to Begin Final Phase of Gruene Road Project

April 7, 2026

Overnight work scheduled through May to minimize traffic impacts

Project Update June 1, 2026: Due to weather-related delays, construction and associated traffic impacts have been extended and are now expected to continue through Friday, July 3. Thank you for your patience as we complete this infrastructure improvement project.

New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) will begin the final phase of the Gruene Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation and Relocation Project on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, with work expected to be completed by Friday, May 29, 2026.

This phase of the project will take place along the 1200 block of Gruene Road and will continue the work previously outlined in Phase 1. The initial phase of construction was completed in March 2026.

To minimize impacts to residents, businesses and visitors, a majority of construction will occur overnight Sunday through Friday morning from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. During active work hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing drivers safely through the area. Short segments of flagging operations are expected during daytime hours during the week while the contractor constructs two concrete vaults near the bridge.

The Gruene Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation and Relocation Project, identified in NBU’s 2021 Wastewater Master Plan, is designed to improve the capacity and reliability of wastewater service while addressing odor control concerns in the historic Gruene area.

Project improvements include replacing an existing 12-inch sewer main with a larger 18-inch main, installing a new odor control unit along Gruene Road, and replacing aging siphon lines that cross the Guadalupe River. These upgrades will support continued growth and enhance system performance for the community.

NBU is committed to investing in critical infrastructure to provide reliable service and ensure the long-term health of the growing New Braunfels community. For more information about this project, visit Capital Improvement
