The NBU Utility Bill Assistance Programs are available to assist those experiencing hardship and financial need. The New Braunfels Foodbank manages the NBU Utility Bill Assistance Program, including the amount of assistance that can be provided to customers to help pay for electric, water, and wastewater charges.

The New Braunfels Food Bank also manages the NBU Low-Income Discount Program, which discounts the total customer bill for those who qualify. The Low-Income Discount Program is available for NBU customers who qualify and is applied over a 12-month period.

Comal County Emergency Relief Fund

The McKenna Foundation and the City of New Braunfels, together with the New Braunfels Food Bank, the Family Life Center, Community Council and the Salvation Army have partnered to assist income-constrained households within the New Braunfels city limits with their utility bills.

To qualify:

  • Household income must be below the 200% federal poverty level ($55,000 for a family of four)
  • Must be an NBU customer or resident of New Braunfels

Texas Utility Help Program

The Texas Utility Help Program is available to provide financial assistance to qualified Texas homeowners and renters with low income. Eligible expenses include electricity, gas, propane, water, and wastewater.

Once an applicant is approved for water and wastewater assistance, Texas Utility Help will automatically send NBU a payment equal to:

  • The applicant’s past-due balance (if any)

                                    +

  • $85 per month for future bills, lasting through September 30, 2023

Texas Homeowner Assistance Program

Texas Homeowner Assistance provides financial assistance to qualified Texas homeowners who have fallen behind on their mortgage, utility payments, and related expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
