NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (May 5, 2025) – New Braunfels Utilities (NBU), in partnership with Communities In Schools of South Central Texas (CIS), has wrapped up its inaugural KinderKraft donation drive, receiving nearly 900 items to support local students in need.

Launched March 17, 2025, KinderKraft, a public drive benefitting New Braunfels-area students in need, encouraged the public to donate new school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and nonperishable snacks. Items were collected through April 28 at multiple drop-off sites across the city.

“Seeing how our community came together to support KinderKraft is incredible,” said George Herrera, current NBU employee and former Communities In Schools student. “As someone who benefited from CIS during my school years, I know how much these items mean to struggling kids. I’m proud to be part of a team and a city that gives back in such a meaningful way.”

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude,” said Susan Wetz, CEO of Communities In Schools of South Central Texas. “These donations—large and small—are already being distributed to students who need them most. The generosity shown through KinderKraft reminds our students that their community cares about them and believes in their success. This community never ceases to amaze me – thank you!”

NBU extends its sincere thanks to all who participated—whether by donating items or hosting collection boxes. Local businesses and organizations played a key role in the program’s success, helping increase access and awareness throughout the six-week campaign.

The KinderKraft program builds on NBU’s 20-year partnership with Communities In Schools and complements the longstanding Kinderschuhe 5K.
