  1. Does NBU provide service to the desired location?

    Before setting up a new electrical connection to your property, you must determine if NBU provides services to that area. To confirm, visit the About Us page to view the service area map.

  2. Contact our Electrical Systems Engineering Department.

    If NBU does provide service to the area, contact NBU’s Electrical Engineering Department to begin the process.

  3. An Electric Engineering Technician will review your request and determine the next steps to take.

    A meeting may be scheduled with a technician at the proposed location to determine if a new easement is required.

    If an easement is required, please refer to NBU’s Easement Resource Page.

  4. Once your request has been reviewed and all prerequisites have been satisfied, you can begin the application process.

If you are a homeowner, builder, or developer looking to establish a new electrical connection, see below for helpful resources and contact information:

  1. Shop around for multiple proposals.

    Customers considering solar are encouraged to shop around for multiple proposals, and review them with NBU’s Solar Engineering team. Our staff can help customers fully understand the interconnection process. New Braunfels Utilities can also provide guidance as to realistic expectations of these generation systems.

  2. Submit required documentation before executing a contract with an NBU customer.

    Contractor to submit required documentation prior to executing a contract with an NBU customer to the  Solar Engineering Team.

    • Owner’s email address
    • Specification sheets for String/Micro Inverter(s)
    • Specification sheets for PV Modules
      • Number of panels, Tilt, and Azimuth for all unique string orientations
    • One-Line Diagram of PV interconnection
    • Specifications of enclosure(s) into which NBU must install cable
      • Dimensions and orientation of access opening
      • Enclosure vertical dimension shall be two times the depth dimension
      • Location of enclosure relative to the meters and the ground
      • Proposed point of delivery connectors
    • Overall Site Plan showing location of equipment include location of fences
      • NOTE: Utility Service Equipment and PV Disconnect shall not be behind a fence without specific prior authorization
    • Submit proof of approved City Building Department (i.e. New Braunfels or Schertz) permit
      • NOTE: Not required for installations outside of city limits

  1. Request a city electric inspection.

    Electric Inspections are required prior to orders being released to Electric Operations for electric meters to be set (temporary and permanent). New Braunfels Utilities inspects all temporary and permanent electric meter loops inside and outside city limits.

  2. Submit copy of approved city inspection before scheduling an NBU inspection.

    New Braunfels Utilities must receive a copy of the approved city inspection before an NBU inspection can be scheduled.

    Tree Trimming: Use our online portal to report a tree limb too close to or on a power line. Our crews will investigate and resolve the issue when possible.

    • NOTE: The Texas One-Call law requires a request for locates to be submitted at least 48 hours prior to digging 16 inches or deeper.
