Transition to Long Code
The telephone number for the NBU Text Outage Notification Program has been changed from 85700 to 830.629.4628. This is NBU’s 24/7 phone number, 830.629.4(NBU), ensuring it is a recognizable and trusted number.
On February 21, 2023, NBU customers with a valid cell phone number on their account were automatically opted in to receive electric outage and emergency notifications via text message. After that date, customers wanting to join the program can simply text “NBU” to 830.629.4628. This system will only be used to relay important information about service-related issues and emergencies.
This change is necessary as mobile carriers are phasing out shared short code numbers, like 85700, and opting for typical ten-digit telephone numbers. Long code numbers are meant to help protect those on the receiving end of business text messages. Customers can readily verify that they are receiving an official message from NBU by easily recognizing the number, limiting the probability of spam texts.
For the outage notification system to work, your account must have a mobile number associated with it in our database. If your number has changed, please give us a call at 830.629.8400 to update your account info. You can also log in to your Customer Connect portal to add or modify your phone numbers.
