Monster Detective
Inspiring Young Minds in Energy Conservation & STEM Learning
The Monster Detective Collective is an educational program developed by Public Power Learning Lab and facilitated by New Braunfels Utilities. It provides standard-aligned instruction for kindergarten through fourth-grade students, introducing key concepts of energy in an engaging, age-appropriate format. The program reinforces core academic skills to support STEM education and:
- Enhance critical thinking
- Encourage scientific inquiry
- Strengthen community awareness
NBU’s Monster Detectives programming is fully aligned with TEKS in Focus, emphasizing vertical alignment to build student understanding of forms of energy from one grade level to the next. The cornerstone of a Learning Lab event is designed to teach kids how energy is made, how it’s used, and how to save it.
In this bright and playful presentation, kindergarteners will discover the magic of light energy and how it helps us every day! Students will learn what light energy is, where we see it at home, and how it works with other kinds of energy to make things turn on, warm up and glow.
First graders will explore a fun, interactive presentation all about how we heat and cool our homes! Students will discover what keeps us warm and what keeps us cool. They’ll learn how heaters and air conditioners work and what an Earth-friendly temperature feels like at home.
Join the Monster Detectives as they investigate how kids use energy and where that energy comes from! In this exciting third and fourth grade presentation, students explore energy sources like wind, hydro, nuclear, coal, solar, natural gas and geothermal.
