NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (Nov. 10, 2025) — The New Braunfels Utilities Enterprise Communications team has earned an Excellence in Public Power Communications Award in the Video Category from the American Public Power Association (APPA).

The national award celebrates NBU’s work to help customers better understand utility operations through creative, engaging and educational content.

NBU’s winning video, “Electric Exchange: Transformer Easements,” reached more than 24,700 views across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube Shorts and X. By demonstrating the required clearance for transformer easements, the video educates customers on how they directly contribute to ensuring reliable and safe access for NBU crews, which means quicker maintenance and faster power restoration for everyone.

The video showcases NBU’s customer-first approach to simplifying complex topics, ensuring residents have the knowledge they need to understand and benefit from utility operations. This educational approach is rooted in NBU’s core belief that an informed customer is a more empowered one. The full video can be viewed here.

“Our goal is to make complex utility topics approachable and relevant to our customers,” said NBU Chief Communications Officer Ragan Dickens. “This award recognizes not just creativity but our ongoing effort to build trust through clear, consistent and transparent communication to our relatives, friends and neighbors – our NBU customers.”

The American Public Power Association is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power approximately 2,000 towns and cities across the nation. APPA’s purpose is to empower community-owned utilities to deliver superior services through advocacy, education and technical programs.
