NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (April 24, 2026) ā€“ New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) has earned the 2025 Certificate of Excellence in Reliability from the American Public Power Association, a national recognition honoring utilities that deliver outstanding electric reliability performance.

Among the 239 utilities recognized nationwide, only five were from Texas, placing NBU among a select group of top-performing utilities in the state and across the country.

The recognition is based on a review of NBU’s electric reliability performance compared with utilities across the country using national data collected by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). NBU ranked in the top 25% nationwide for System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), which measures how long the average customer is without power during outages each year.

This ranking was achieved both with and without Major Event Days, such as severe storms or other large-scale incidents, using data from 2020 through 2024.

ā€œThis recognition reflects the daily commitment of our teams who operate, maintain and strengthen the electric system our community depends on,ā€ said Mark Steelman, Chief Operations Officer for New Braunfels Utilities. ā€œReliable service is built through planning, investment and employees who take pride in delivering for our customers every day.ā€

The Certificate of Excellence in Reliability highlights utilities that consistently deliver strong performance and dependable electric service to the communities they serve.

ā€œAs New Braunfels continues to grow, reliability remains one of our highest priorities,ā€ said Gregory Thomas, Chief Engineer of Electric Services for New Braunfels Utilities.

ā€œFrom system improvements to long-term planning, we are continually investing in infrastructure that supports our customers today and prepares us for the future.ā€
