(New Braunfels, TX – April 26, 2024) – New Braunfels Utilities (NBU), a municipally owned utility providing water, wastewater, and electric services to the greater City of New Braunfels area, announced that Mark Steelman, a dynamic and transformative leader with a history of experience in operations management, has been named as NBU’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective June 3, 2024. Steelman succeeds Ryan Kelso, who served as NBU’s COO since 2019 and was named the Chief Executive Officer in January 2024.

As NBU’s new COO, Steelman will lead the company’s almost $1 billion capital improvement program. He will provide strategic direction for all utility operations, including Electric, Water, Wastewater, and Engineering. He will continue NBU’s focus on safety, promoting connectivity among operational groups, standardizing practices, and promoting operational excellence.

“I am excited to have Mark assume this critical leadership role,” said CEO Ryan Kelso. “His extensive experience with Inframark, LLC, where he led a large team that specialized in the management, operations, and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities across Texas, will allow him to manage the largest capital improvement program in NBU history. Mark has a proven record of using data to drive change while putting safety first. We have a lot of vital and ambitious work ahead of us to deliver for this community, and Mark is an ideal leader to ensure we execute those plans.”

Steelman is an industry leader with a keen focus on innovation, efficiency, and strategic growth. He has crafted and executed strategies that enhanced organizational performance, driven financial success, and ensured regulatory compliance. Steelman will assist NBU in continuing to foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and excellence while maintaining a steadfast commitment to customer satisfaction and stakeholder engagement.
