When adding a backup generator to your home you must follow these steps.

Obtain Permits

The customer’s electrician must obtain permits from the applicable Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), either the City of New Braunfels or the City of Schertz.

Provide Documentation

The customer’s electrician must provide the following documentation to NBU Electric Engineering.

New Braunfels Utilities Electric Engineering will assign a technician to process the request and issue written authorization to install the connection when the proposal is determined to meet all utility requirements.

Installation and Inspection

The customer’s electrician will install the new connection and schedule final inspections. The customer’s electrician must provide proof of final inspection from the appropriate AHJ (if applicable), then schedule a final verification meeting with the NBU Electric Engineering technician.

Permission to Operate
New Braunfels Utilities Electric Engineering will issue written permission to operate when the installation is determined to be complete and compliant. If a generator is found in operation without written permission from NBU, a $500 unauthorized generation fee is applicable.
