NBU receives national recognition from the American Public Power Association for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2022.
(New Braunfels, TX – April 17, 2023) – New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) has been awarded the 2022 Certificate of Excellence in Reliability from the American Public Power Association (APPA), which represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.
“We are proud to receive this recognition for the second year in a row. It is a testament to the hard work of all our staff to ensure that we keep New Braunfels powered,” said Greg Brown, NBU’s Chief Technology Officer.
A utility must be in the top quartile (25%) of utilities for System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) to receive this prestigious distinction. This system’s reliability indicator tracks power outages and restoration data. Once per year, the APPA’s Reliability Team compares this data to national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for all types of electric utilities and determines who is the best of the best when it comes to keeping the light’s on.
Nationwide, the average public power customer has their lights out for less than half the time that private, for-profit utilities do.
“New Braunfels Utilities crews are on the job 24/7 to ensure our customers have the most reliable service possible,” said Chief Strategic Communications and Security Officer Melissa Krause. “Each NBU employee, whether working on the lines or behind the scenes, takes great pride in providing our community with essential services. This award shines a light on that commitment.”
