(New Braunfels, TX – June 17, 2022) New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) is calling on local artists who are New Braunfels Utilities customers, ages 16 and up, to help raise awareness of the important role each of us plays in keeping our rivers clean by protecting our storm and wastewater systems from becoming polluted. The winning designs will play an important part in generating awareness about key aspects of our community.
Artists can help make a difference in our community by creating works of art for the utility access covers through the NBU Utility Access Cover Art Contest. The beautiful metal covers will last for generations to come and pay tribute to the culture, heritage, and history of New Braunfels.
The contest is open now through July 31, 2022. Three designs will be chosen as winners. The NBU Utility Access Cover Art Contest criteria and contest rules are as follows:
- Artwork must be original and reflect the New Braunfels community’s culture, heritage, or history.
- Artwork must be placed into an 8-inch circle. The winning designs will be scaled to 32″.
- The artwork is to be submitted in black-and-white.
- Each submitted piece of artwork becomes the property of New Braunfels Utilities with universal use rights.
- The winning designs may be subject to artistic enhancement as deemed necessary.
- Three winning designs will be die-cast and will be used to become utility access covers in our community.
Artists can submit their creative entries by email at email@example.com, or mail or hand-deliver to External Affairs, Attention: Stephanie Guerra-Hill, New Braunfels Utilities, 263 Main Plaza, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
A panel of community judges will select three winning designs based on the appearance and messaging of the art. The three winners will be notified and invited to attend an unveiling event and may see their artwork displayed on covers throughout the community.

About New Braunfels Utilities:
Dedicated to excellence in service, New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) was established in 1942 and is one of 2,000 community-owned, nonprofit public power electric utilities in the nation. The mission of NBU is to enhance the quality of our community by providing innovative, essential services. Governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of local residents appointed by the New Braunfels City Council, NBU is committed to being a recognized and trusted community partner, providing essential electric, water, and wastewater services. Utility revenue is invested back into the utility systems, which benefits the community. New Braunfels Utilities makes an annual transfer to the City of New Braunfels, which in turn helps to pay for services such as fire, police, and parks. Additionally, in 2016, NBU repurposed its former16-acre warehouse site to become the Headwaters at the Comal, to serve as its conservation legacy, which will strengthen the relationship between the community and nature by showcasing the significance of the Comal Springs.
